VL The Staircase Sky Atlantic, 9pm The riveting crime thriller continues as one of the documentary makers, Sophie (Juliette Binoche), starts corresponding with American writer Michael Peterson (Colin Firth) while he languishes in jail, awaiting an appeal.

VL Secrets of the London Underground Yesterday, 8pm The curious documentary series continues with Tim Dunn and Siddy Holloway exploring parts of the Tube that passengers never see. They’re shown quick-and-easy recipes, and how 21st-century tech will help reduce food waste. They meet Karen and Andy, who rely on ready meals because they have have triplets, one of whom is undergoing chemotherapy. VL Eat Well For Less? BBC One, 8pm Jordan Banjo replaces Gregg Wallace as co-presenter (with Chris Bavin) of the magazine show that helps families eat heathily, cheaply. Those two are long shots this time round, with Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morakawa and 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler in the mix. He’ll be joined this year by another old-stager, Phil Mickelson, who sensationally won his second title at Kiawah Island last year. Last time it was here, in 2007, Tiger Woods won the tournament for the fourth time.

Golf: PGA Championship Thur, Sky Sports Golf, 1pm The season’s second Major returns to Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also, conceptual artist Oliver Chanarin talks about William Orpen’s 1923 painting To the Unknown British Soldier in France (on view at the Imperial War Museum in London), commissioned by the British Ministry of Information to commemorate the Peace Conference at Versailles in 1919 and film producer Andrew Macdonald explores the controversy sparked by The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, a wry take on the British war effort made by his grandfather Emeric Pressburger. Its starting point is WB Yeats’s line “All changed, changed utterly” in his poem Easter, 1916 about the Irish uprising, which marked a major strike against the British empire. War and Peace, the penultimate episode, explores the trauma of the two world wars and their impact on art. Even if one hasn’t always agreed with the series’s mixed conclusions about Britain’s past, as viewed through the prism of its culture, it has been an informative watch. History is written by the victors, but can be endlessly interpreted by successive generations of artists. Art That Made Us BBC Two, 9pm This “alternative history of these islands told through art” has been a revelation.
